You'll be spoilt for choice with bird watching; walking, from novice to experienced hikers/ramblers; fishing, from fly fishing at Ladybower Reservoir a 15 minute drive away and course fishing at Dam Flask on the doorstep. Also close by are clay pigeon shooting, golfing and horse riding (all by arrangement). If you are more into relaxing with a drink, then come along and just enjoy the views. During the summer there is the local cricket team at Low Bradfield or visit the historic Bradfield Church at High Bradfield.
The Derwent Dam was the location for 617 Squadron's practice runs before heading deep into Germany in 1943 with the aim of destroying the Edersee, Mohne and Sorpe Dams.
Famously known as the Dam Buster raid, the pilots and bomber crews needed somewhere to practice using the innovative 'bouncing bombs' created by Sir Barnes Wallis. The Derwent Dam proved to be the perfect location, and so local history was made!
